The purpose of music videos

The purpose of music channels and videos are to promote artists and record labels to the world and also to entertain people that are watching the channel. The outcomes to this is that the artist and record label will increase their popularity throughout the world. It will also help people to recognise new artists. Also for the artists is will help make them money.

Many young people use You Tube as a source to view music videos. Today, You Tube can be use for self promotion for many young artist in the world with record labels constantly on the look out for new talent.  promote young artists that have not been discovered yet and to also help record labels to find young people in the music industry to sign up.
You Tube is also use for entertain, for example, many people use you tube as a source of music because it is free and its all can access. However, if people use other peoples material on you tube, the copyright law can help stop people copying and help protect using peoples material and claiming it as their own. Many artist use you tube so it helps them promote their own material. You tube also helps artists get noticed in the music with record labels search for young artists on you tube. People can also make money on you tube if they are a Google partner. For example, for every 1000 views on a video you could earn money.

In music videos there are 3 types of music videos. narrative, performance and conceptual. narrative means that the music video follows a storyline. performance means that you see the artist either performing on stage or on set for example, Adele used one of her performances at a music award ceremony as her music video. Conceptual videos are music videos that have a meaning embedded in the video which would make viewers think the video is pointless at first but still has a meaning.

Synergy in Media

Synergy comes from a Greek word that means work together. In Media it is used to explain how different products can work together using the same concepts, for example, film soundtrack and video game.
In the film Terminator 2, a Guns and Roses song, “You Could Be Mine” was used in the soundtrack. The result was that the song promoted the film and vice versa.

The History of MTV

MTV, also known as Music  television launched in august 1st in 1981 at 12:01am. The purpose of the channel when it first started was to view music video's to the public present by on air hosts also known as VJs, through out the years VJs was begining to popularize and more people became addicted to MTV.

MTV's moral influence on young people, including issues related to censorship and social activism, has been a subject of intense debate for years. MTV's choice to focus on non-music programming has also been contested relentlessly since the 1990s, demonstrating the channel's previous impact on popular culture.

On August 1, 1981, at 12:01 a.m., MTV launched with the words "Ladies and gentlemen, rock and roll," spoken by John Lack, and played over footage of the first Space Shuttle launch countdown of Columbia, which took place earlier that year and of the launch of Apollo 11. Those words were immediately followed by the original MTV theme song, a crunching classical tune composed by Jonathan Elias and John Petersen, playing over photos of the Apollo 11 moon landing, with the flag featuring MTV's logo changing various colors, textures, and designs.

The purpose of MTV is to promote artists and record labels to the world and also to entertain people that are watching the channel. The outcomes to this is that the artist and record label will increase their popularity throughout the world. It will also help people to recognise new artists. Also for the artists is will help make them money.

The history of music videos:

The first music video ever to come to the television screens was by Queen - Boheimien Rhapsody which was released in 1975 for their album 'A night at the Opera'. This was the first music video that anyone did and was produced by Roy Thomas Baker and stayed at the top of the UK charts for nine weeks and selling over a million copies by the end of january 1976.  it was only after the success of "Bohemian Rhapsody" that it became regular practice for record companies to produce promotional videos for artists' single releases.
